Perseverance
Perseverance
is a great virtue. Perseverance means trying a thing again and again with great patience. No great work can be done without perseverance. One should not
leave any work if one once fails to do it. In the words of a Bengali poet, try
a hundred times if you fail once, and never say it can’t be done. Perseverance
is very essential for our student life. He should not be disheartened. He must
try until success is achieved. A man without the quality of perseverance always
depends on others. He also believes that what is lotted cannot be blotted. It
is a very foolish idea. He always lags behind. He suffers in the long run.
Allah helps them those who help themselves. The king of Scotland, Robert Bruce,
has left us a thrilling example of perseverance. Once, after being
defeated several times by the English, he was forced to hide in
a temporary exile. But he in no way gave up the intention to beat back the
English from his motherland. One day, while in deep meditation about how he
could wage a successful war again, he found that a spider, having made attempts
to make its web six times and failed, was eventually successful at the seventh
attempt. On seeing this the king learned a lesson. He applied that
experience of the spider in his own life and was successful. He attacked the
English for the seventh time and was able to defeat them and dominate his power
on his motherland. So, we can say, Man is the architect of his own fortune.
Perseverance is the cornerstone of success. We should try to cultivate it from
our very early life.
